Project Overview
Our data science project explores the relationship between cancer mortality and toxin release rates in the United States. By collecting state data for both statistics over the past several years, the project hopes to provide more insight into the link between these two variables and determine whether states with higher rates of chemical toxin release also have higher rates of cancer mortality.
Using patient data obtained from the Center of Disease Control and environmental pollutant data from the Environmental Protection Agency, we have performed a number of statistical analyses on each of the individual datasets, as well as on a combined dataset with attributes from both sources.
Our research examines how these rates change over time by state and relative to each other, in addition to illustrating interesting correlations between certain attributes that may illuminate new and interesting avenues of research for future investigations.
